Most clinicians know the basics of gender-affirming care: use correct pronouns, avoid pathologizing gender diversity, and validate clients’ identities. But true competence goes beyond checklists; it’s about navigating complexity, addressing ethical dilemmas, and providing nuanced care across diverse client experiences.

This interactive training is designed for clinicians ready to move past foundational knowledge into sophisticated practice. Participants will explore advanced clinical strategies, ethical decision-making, and relational approaches that honor the whole client while staying grounded, skillful, and confident in challenging or ambiguous situations. Humor, humility, and real-world case examples guide learning without shaming.

This training is approved for 3 cultural competency CEC's through NASW/CT

***In the event of inclement weather on the day of this training, it will be conducted as a live webinar over zoom.  Live webinars count towards in-person CEC requirements.  Participants will be notified via email ASAP in the event of this change of plans.

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe advanced principles of gender-affirming therapy beyond basic competence, including intersecting identities and systemic considerations.

  2. Identify complex clinical scenarios where standard gender-affirming interventions may be insufficient or ambiguous.

  3. Apply ethical decision-making frameworks to challenging situations in gender-affirming practice.

  4. Demonstrate advanced relational strategies for navigating family dynamics, co-occurring mental health conditions, and social stressors affecting gender-diverse clients.

  5. Integrate reflective and relational techniques into daily clinical practice to enhance confidence and attunement with gender-diverse clients.
